Scopes

Hey guys, im new to this forum

i am a user of Caraudioforum.com and well... of coarse that wont do me much good for this question.

i have a Savage Arms Mark 2 (chambered in .22 LR) while i was bored the other day i pulled it from the basement and brushed away the dust, mounted a scope ( Simmons 3x9 32 MM)
i took it out and zero'ed it ( 1" groups at 50 yards with remington bulk ammo) i was pretty impressed for a $180 rifle, ancient scope, and bulk ammo. so the next day i went to school i used the Plasma-Cam to cut a 6" circle from 1/8" steel, found a 3/8" rod in the scrap and stick welded it togeather (E7018). brought it home, drilled a hole in a tree stump 130 yards from the back deck and set the make-shift steel target in the stump.

i returned to the deck and began shooting, i knew that the rounds would drop around 5.75" at that distance and with the little wind it would drift 2.5"-3" to the right. however the Simmons scope does not have mil-dots and does not easily adjust for distance and wind. so Kentucky Windage was pretty much my best bet, which worked pretty well.

i am looking into a new scope for this rifle (and CCI Stingers) to really see what i can get out of it. being that it is a .22 caliber rifle i dont really see a need in spending over $150 for a scope.
i have looked into a BSA 4x16 40MM and a Simmons 4x21 40MM, i was hoping maybe someone on the forum could help ( I want the scope to have accurate Mil-Dots)

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Do you still have iron sights on the gun? You should be able to consistently hit that plate with iron sights.

Once you get good with iron sights you might find you like the accomplishment and don't want to spend any money on a scope.

IMO, both scopes you mentioned have too much magnification. Why not back off to something less like a 3X9? You'll have an easier time finding the target at 3X and I can't imagine ever needing 9X for a 22 LR, but you'd have it if you need it.

I have used Simmons scopes and have found them satisfactory for the moeny and suitable for the 22. They are not as bright and crisp as a more costly scope, but should be sufficient for day use on the range.
