Question 30/30 winchester 130gr. cartridges

have older Win. 30-30, 5 digit ser. no. indicates production between, 1903 - 1908. Looking for 130gr. cartridges.

Happened to find someone who gave me 4 cartridges and compared them with modern 150gr and 170gr.

For this particular gun, the 130's proved much better accuracy and KO power.

Please help me locate

What about reloading or finding some1 who does and maybe use their tools?

Sounds like the cartridges you were given were reloads, maybe. 130gr. bullets would be very uncommon in factory .30-30 ammo.

This is true. The original 30-30 loads were 160 gr. I take a 165 gr NP and file it flat and its weight is down to 160 gr and have had very good luck with this in both my Marlins and Winchesters. I don't recall the exact load right now.

Any reason to not use the 170 gr. flat-nose version of the Partition? Are they hard to get up in AK?

Interesting choice, I've used that bullet a LOT in my '06, but haven't considered it in a .30-30. I did participate in an experiment once where we sanded off the noses of 150gr. Ballistic Tips, and despite this being a tad crude, they were very accurate in a Marlin 336.

No reason except I like to try different things. I read that the load for the original 30-30 was 160 and wanted to try some. Plus when using 165 in the 06 I have good results even at long range so I thought I would try this. It shoots flatter than the 170's and hits harder than the 150. The small flat point gives it a higher BC than the RN. It is all pretty academic but inquiring minds want to know.

I did a search and really didnt find any factory loaded 130 grain rounds...best bet is to reload your own...probably the only way your gonna get any.

I have been loading 125 JHPs in the 30-30 for years as a self defence and a small critter load. The only problem I have had is with my Win 94, but they work fine in my Marlins. They do not always feed correctly in the Win. They are about 2500 fps and are devastating on two leged and smaller four leged animals. I WOULD USE THEM OR RECOMMEND THEIR USE FOR BIG GAME, EVEN SMALL DEER. They act like varmit loads and lack the penatration need on big game.
Hope this helps.
PS: I live in a rual area and my nearest neighbor is about 1/4 mile away through the trees so the 30-30 is ok (actuly a great) home defence weapon.

If you can reload or get someone to do it for you, try the Speer 130g flat nose and H335 powder. I have been loading 125, and 130g bullets for the .30-30 for years now. With a speed of 2630- 2700 fps, they work excelant for deer, if you pick your shots. The rifles I have been loading for mostly are bolt actions and single shots. I did load a batch of 130g fn for a friends model 94, and he loves them, even though I did not load them as hot [2580 fps].
