.357 Mag Rifle Recommendations
Hi All,
It will be apparent that this is my first post. However, I am not new to firearms and I've had my share of forum experience. I tried various searches but was unable to find the information I seek (3rd paragraph down).
I had a NY CCP back in the mid '70's. Prior to that, I carried an M-1 Carbine, .38 revolver (a Colt, if memory serves) and an M-79 Grenade Launcher overseas.
Been in Florida since '82 and it's a lot more gun-friendly than NY! C'mon down!!
I'm purchasing a S&W Model-327 TRR8 hand gun. It's a .357. In the past I have enjoyed rifles of the same calibers as my hand guns (22 Mag, 9mm, 22LR, etc.). With the purchase of the TRR8, I'd like to get a rifle chambered in .357 Mag. My requirements are simple: Reliable, accurate, low-maintenance and inexpensive.
Seriously, any suggestions, comments or links to prior threads on the subject will be appreciated.
John G.

Welcome DrDyno:
You might check out a Marlin 1894c. It's .357 Mag. and can accept 38 Specials as well. It is also drilled and tapped to accept a scope mount.
There is also a Taurus made copy of the old Winchester Model 1892 that would work out nice as well.

I've been wanting to buy a Henry lever action in .45 colt. I assume the .357 would be of similar quality. So I will keep my eye on this thread and see if we get any support for the Henry.

I second the Marlins 1894Cor CB! Excellant rilfe. If you buy any Lever gun new they are not cheap. You might find one used for $300-400!

If I were to buy a lever action, it's almost certainly be a Marlin of some model.

The Marlin 1894C in .357 magnum is perhaps the most FUN rifle ever made. You might consider adding a Williams FP sight. They are fast and accurate. Very popular cowboy action rifle. - not a bad alternative to an "assault" rifle either.

The model 92 replicas (Puma, Rossi) are also worth considering, and if you want one that is slicked up, Steve Young, a Texas gunsmith, does them on your gun or will order a gun for you and do it. www.stevesgunz.com.
The Marlin and the 92s have different looks and feels, you may prefer one to the other.

I've seen a Ruger #1 special police edition on Gunsamerica that is very interesting.

I have owned a Marlin 1894 C for over 5 years now and enjoy it very much. The lever action is very smooth and it handles and shoots very well.
Lots of fun.

Isn't it the law that you can only buy a levergun to go with a revolver?! Marlin does make very accurate and dependable levers...

If you are happy to shoot any rifle in 357 magnum, consider the H&R Handi Rifle. It's a single shot, and breaks open like a shotgun. You can get them new in the $250- range. They are not a thing of beauty, and some consider the single shot a drawback, but they are very accurate, and, with some love and polishing, can be a good rifle, even for deer and black bear.

I've had a Rossi '92 replica in .357 for quite a few years now. It's a fun gun. It's been reliable and accurate.

Now that you mention it .... yes .... I believe it is a law. I can attest to both the accuracy and dependability statement. Mine is the Guide Gun in 45-70. I grab that gun more than any other when headed to the woods.

I've got a Marlin 1894C to go with my GP100 .357 magnum, and a Puma M92 to go with my Blackhawk, Redhawk, Bisley Vaquero .45 Colts.
Both are very good rifles in those calibers.

+1 for the Puma '92 in a .357 Mag. I have a SS with a 16 1/2 BBL that will feed .38 Special and .357 without a hitch. It weighes under 6 pounds and shoots really well considering the iron sights and the shooter (me). The only drawback is that it cannot be fitted for a scope, if that is one of your requirements.

Nobody makes a revolver in .444 Marlin! That would be a handful!
I was going to mention the Ruger #1 as well, but Flash beat me to it!

Actually I think Magnum Research (BFR) does. And no, I don't want to be shooting it.....

You're right Mike, http://www.magnumresearch.com/Expand...ctCode=BFR444M
I'm not in a huge rush for one though, I've been lacking in the reloading for my current 444. I don't think I could feed another one.
