.338 Lapua?

Any .338 lapua shooters here? I fired an AR30 today and I'm hooked I'm going to start saveing hopefully this time next year I can bring one home. Anyway what are your opinions of this caliber and rifle? Only two drawbacks I see is cost and weight. I'm going to easily spend 3k + between rifle scope dies and initial brass stock. Weight is a good thing for the recoil but if for some reason I ever take it hunting which I might 14 lb is heavy to lugg all day. I'd like to get into a serious long range rifle. Not really for hunting but I'd like to hit gongs and paper at 800-1000 yards. Anyway what do you guys think?

338 is just getting started at 800 yrds. a good 308 will a hit gong @ a 800yrds but it wont do for hunting. thought about a 300rum or weatherby? be a lot cheaper to shoot and u can hunt with these at 800 yrds. still it would be nice to have one of the 338 imo just incase i find a 1400yrd range

.338 Lapua?

My favorite Gunsmith/machinist put one together for a customer and I got to see it before it went home. Very impressive and seems to be the darling of long range and snipers. Life is short Zapzoo, if you want one go for it, justify it any way you want!! Lou
