Ruger American 243 win.

My buddy just picked up his new Ruger American 243 yesterday, it is the first short action up here so far, plenty of 270's and 30-06's but this is the first short action to arrive in this part of the country. He ordered it 4 months ago, it came in wed. he picked it up yesterday. It is a really nice looking gun, he paid $335, you cant go wrong with that. I have seen the 30-06's and 270's shoot, very impressive! Was going to go out to the range today but it is storming here today, what luck he has, waited 4 months and still cant shoot it. He bought it at Lolo's Sporting Goods in Lewiston Id., they told him it was the first in the northwest, and they only got one, and he bought it. Also said if you want one in the 308 or the 243, they didnt know when they would get any in those cartidges, Right now if you order a 243 there you will be #6 on the list at that shop. I think I will go ahead and get on the list, wish they had them in a 7-08 and they came in stainless, maybe they will later down the line. I think Ruger has hit a home run with this one!!

Wholesale Sports

I just got back from Missoula where I stopped at WS.Looked at a Leupold VX 6 in 2-12.What a great scope. Also looked at a Ruger American in 308.I was very impressed with it.And at $349.00 I think it will sell very well.In fact i may buy one in 243.
I just called them and they have one in stock.

I've handled the 270 and 30-06 at a shop close by. They have an interesting bedding system in them and a beefy action. Nice looking guns !!

Saw and held my first Ruger American today. I have to admit that it felt pretty good. They had .243Win, .308, and .270Win in stock and on sale for $333 with scope.

The American is truly a great looking and feeling rifle. As far as the .243 chambering, great and very accurate round. We have two .243's the 700 has not seen daylight since I don't know when.I bought my wife an H&R Compact Youth model last year to deer hunt with me.After mounting a scope on it,and bore sighting I went out to the range here on the place. The first group I shot with my handloads win. nickel brass, cci lr mag primer,42gr. IMR 7828ssc.100gr. nosler partition. Was just under an inch, with a trigger that needed a come-a-long to help pull it.I took it back inside, spent 2 days hand lapping the bore.Brought the receiver to my smith and asked him to do the trigger to 2 1/2lbs if he could get it there.Anyway this **** cheap *** rifle will now shoot a ragged hole at 100. The .243 round has a great following and now I know why..............

purpledragon,

Yes sir they will, I bought the 243 H&R Laminated Thumbhole Stock and 24 inch bull barrel last year and it's ridiculously accurate. I love the gun !! In January I bought another in 280 Rem and on Friday I bought another in 30-30 Win. I love these guns !!

I myself have a BUNCH of the H&R single shots, and of all that I bought, only one would not shoot it was in .270win. I played with bullets, powder, seating depth, ect It just wouldn't shoot.Traded it for some power tools...........

Enough about the H&R. I'm interested in how the American shoots. I'm hoping Ruger finally gets something right.

The reviews i've seen about the new Ruger American is that they shot ok while one article never had a sub-moa group !! Have you held one yet ? I though it was very barrel end heavy and didn't balance well. The stock seem to be made out of very light thin plastic, JMO. You can get a Marlin X gun for the same price. The Ruger did have one heck of a bolt and action though and the bedding system is really nice.

I've handled a few of the Americans ever since they first appeared in gun stores near me. My first general impression of it was not good. First one I handled was a 30-06, a caliber I have in 4 or 5 rifles. Due to its stock and design the American seemed a rather flimsy rifle to me compared to 30-06s I own. But would have bought one to try if it had a cartridge I was interested in. P.S., I own stevens 200s, Savage Axis and Marlin XL or XS rifles. Price of the American in my ballpark for a new rifle purchase.
