Savage Custom Shop

Registered Users do not see the above ad.

Though Savage does not tell you anything on their website about it, I've read quite a few people talking about Savage's Custom Shop. I do know this much so far: Any parts they have for standard production firearms you can use for your custom rifle, you can get it chambered in basically anything (for right hand), and the easiest way to contact the custom shop is to call customer service.

I was just wondering though, is there any difference between the custom shop rifles and the standard rifles, and is the price for what you're getting good?

Help is much appreciated.

I don't think it's like the Remington custom shop, but it could be. Most of the cases I've read about involve someone calling them and ordering a production gun with a different barrel material, contour, or chambering.

To call them up and order a model 14 classic with AAA fancy French walnut with 22LPI skip pattern checking, and a inlayed buttplate and pistol grip cap may be out of their league.

To add to what bandit said they will build a gun that you want as long as it's a caliber they already chamber and it has to be in a barrel length they already use. They won't cut a special barrel length like 25 inches or 27 inches and so on.

I don't believe it has to be a current chambering, but a chambering they have offered in the past or present.

I guess in theory, you could order a 303 Savage or 22 Savage HP if they would do the bolt work.

Of course, E.R. Shaw will build a custom rifle on a Savage action, using a Shaw barrel for about a grand as well. I believe it's called the MKVII.

I've heard of them, but for hunting a simple Savage customized to my liking will do just nicely, and cost under $1k

Savage will build just about anything you want. I called and talked to Effie. She knows her stuff. I had them build me two 300 win mags. They are twins. They have 28 inch stainless fluted barrels (they were custom made by savage for me) varmint target crown, varmint taper, varmint accustock and trigger( apparently they make 3 accutriggers), fluted bolt and an oversized bolt Handel. I had them dip the whole thing in mossy oak break up infinity. MSRP was $1350.00 each. For a custom gun with everything I was looking for, the price is fair. The only gunsmith in my area worth his salt is in a nursing home, so this was my best bet. Savage turnaround time is like 3-4 months, but worth the wait I hope. Should be here next week.
