Is it just me or is 40 grain .22 Long Rifle ammunition almost impossible to find ?

Virtually all the commonly seen (on store shelves) .22 LR ammo is 36 grain hollow point.

Are the bean-counters firmly in control of the ammunition companies (perish-the-thought!) or is there another explanation ?

There are plenty of 40 grain loads. The high-speed 36 grain loads are popular. I recommend the CCI Velocitor for a 40 grain hunting load.

I see boxes of 40 grain .22 Long Rifle for sale in our local Wal-Mart. As stated the 36 grainers are more popular.

It can't be to difficult to find, I have 13,600 rounds of it in 13 flavors. Me thinks you either need to find a different toy store or ask the counterman to order what you want by the case.
