Welcome to the great ammo scare of 2013. You'll tell your kids and grandkids stories about it.

I went to my Sportsman's Warehouse last week, the only .22 cal. ammo on the shelves
was .22 Magnum, and that .17 WMR stuff. All the .22 short, long and long rifle were gone.

There's a shortage?

Obama stated it was created by the firearms and ammo makers to boost sales. Must be true, he's the President.

Don't say shortage too loud-least you get bashed about proving there is a shortage.

Hard to buy a few boxes when the guy buys $600 of them. Hoardage - no shortage.

I did not see that anywhere, but, I suppose if he told the truth and said something such as it was a blessing from God, that would not due either.

How many people are looking for .22 Long Rifle ammunition because they actually need it, and how many are looking for it because they can't find it?

I really don't have much. Enough for a a few really 'wild-and-crazy' (think Steve Martin) range sessions, but not enough for the 'rise of the machines' (terminator series), which would be ineffective anyway...

Wish I had a few more for the brain shots on zombies, better if I weren't hindered to 10 shot mags, and had to carry around 20 mags, and a machete.

Hollywood and Congress has done a great service for us all.

Are you an NRA member?

It came through in an NRA email as one of the "Grass Roots Alert" series.

Yes, unfortunately, part of having to be club member.

I searched after I posted and did not see any direct quote from Obama on that.

Went to my local Wal-Mart this morning and asked the guy at the Sporting Goods Dept. if he had any .22 LR ammo. He told me that they haven't had any in stock for a couple of months. The only shells I saw were .270's, .30-06's, .243's, and one box of .25-06. Plenty of shotgun shells especially Turkey loads. He said that it will be late Summer before things return close to normal. I am certainly glad I have a few thousand rounds of .22 LR H.P. ammo!!

I went into a gun shop last week to browse their guns. The shelves were practically empty. I asked if he had any 22 LR. He said what is that???? He said he has not been able to get any in months.

While I was there 4 different guys came in to buy ammo. They all asked for different calibers. None of them walked out with any. They had all the shotgun shells you could want but no 22 of any kind, no 9mm, 45, 308 or 30-06. The local Walmarket has no 12 gauge except slugs. The guy at the counter said it had been a long time since they got any 22 LR. They did have a few 270 and 30-06 but that was about it.

I have not tried to buy reloading componets lately. I am hoping I can find some powder and bullets.
The gun shop owner said he is not letting anyone hoard ammo. He is saving what he can get for his regular customers and in limited number.

Good thing I stocked up on 22 LR and assorted shotgun shells before Christmas. Me and my son just don't go out and shoot like we did. We generally burn thru a brick of 22's a session. Not anymore until supply catches up with demand.

Stopped by the local BassPro store yesterday on my return from the range. The .22 ammo shelves were empty. I told the clerk at the gun counter that I'd seen a flyer from the store this past weekend for .22 long rifle ammo at about $45 per thousand rounds. He said it sold out in less than an hour with a limit of 2 per customer and that they had also expected to get in some Winchester ammo, but that never arrived.

When the stuff stops turning over at speculative prices, the shortage is over.

Panic buying only adds to the problem. I have heard one individual who was buying Wal-Mart AR rifles and selling them at gun shows for a $200 mark up say he is done, now that Reid has signaled the assault weapons ban is dead on arrival.

Once the Gunbroker auctions stop receiving $5 and $6 per box bids and the speculator misses a truck payment waiting for his price, the games end.
