Thumbs up Speed Steel

Shot in my second ever pistol match today, this time Speed Steel rimfire. I had a blast, and happily my Mark II ran like a top, even tho I had 2 brand new magazines (hard to have faith in untested mags).
If you have never shot in a match which requires speed before, just know you will be humbled in the beginning.
I honestly think my target to target and shot to shot times are much faster with my Glock 19 than with the 22; even tho the Ruger is far easier to shoot itty bitty groups with.
I am glad my buddy talked me into trying the matches, and I do not know why I waited so long to start.
The 22 speed steel is definitely a great way to have fun for just a little money. You can shoot centerfire, if you like, and also 22 rifle.

I've shot IPSC and a lot of defensive stuff, but never with a rimfire.

It sounds like a blast. Are the shoots from the holster, reloads, moving etc.?

Rimfire rifle and pistol start with the gun loaded and off safe, from the low ready. You need one hit per per target and then hit a stop plate. You shoot 5 strings at each stage, your best 4 runs are totalled for score. We only had 1 stage that required movement. The rest were fired from a static position. Max number of plates was 5. I had 10 rounds loaded in each mag, the only time I used all of a magazine, I was shooting far too fast for my skill level.
After each string, you can change mags, then return to the low ready. It is very convenient to have 5 magazines. If you dont, someone will load while you fire, but it slows down the stage a bit. No one complained about it today.
Centerfire is from the holster/surrender position, that is the only difference.
You can shoot more than one gun, we had quite a few shooters with 22 and centerfire pistols, or pistols and rifles.
It was a blast. I came in 7th of 15 for iron sight rimfire, which is fine with me.

OK. I've got a good picture of the drills. That really does sound like a lot of fun.

Going too fast is common, and one of the harder habits to break.

And a big thumbs up for your placing! Not too shabby at all!

A week ago this past Sunday I shot in my first ever Ruger Rimfire Challange in St Cloud Minnesota. Yes it was a hoot to shoot to say the least.

There were 5 stages with 6 plates in each stage (5 white and 1 red stop plate which had to be shot last). The plates were various sizes and shapes and distances. Each shooter shot each stage 4 times with their Rimfire Rifle and 4 times with their Rimfire Handgun. The slowest time from each stage with each gun was omitted from the total.

There was a 2 second penality for each white plate missed and a 10 second penality for missing the red stop plate. It took me a while to figure out it took more time to go back and pick up a missed plate than the 2 second penality would have been on most stages.

To say I sucked would be an understatement but I had a GREAT TIME and learned a lot for next year. Yes I will be going again next year.

Above are a few of the many photos my daughter and wife took while at the shoot.
