Ranger Bolt Action

Registered Users do not see the above ad.

Question for you. My cousin bought a Ranger model .22 cal. bolt action rifle at a local pawn shop. It has a heavy barrel and clip fed the only writing on it is Ranger .22 LR . The guy at the pawn shop said he thinks Stevens made it but not for sure . I tried a google search and couldnt find anything on it . If any of you have any information on this rifle I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

If there's no serial number, then it comes from the golden age of cheap firearms (pre 1968's Gun Control Act) and there's probably no telling who made it or where it came from.

A picture might help....

Also, search around on the Numrich site (www.e-gunparts.com) and see what you come up with.

coydog, There was several manufacturers of the Ranger guns, Stevens was one of them. If you go to www.e-gunparts.com you will see a menu at the left, click on the cross reference and scroll down to the R's it list the Rangers by model number and tells you who made it and the manufacturers model number. Hope it helps.

Coydog,
It's a varaition of the stevens 416 target rifle. I have one and have seen several for sale. The buttplate should be checkerd steel. A tall rear apture sight, unertl style scope mounts one on reivecer one on the barrel and the front has a barrel band that is stamped steel but looks a little like a ruger 10/22 barrel band. you can get magazines for it easy 5 or 10 round ones. the same magazine fits several savage & stevens 22 rifles. it should be a good shooterand if its not damaged shoud give 1/2 to 1 " groups at fifity yards.

First of all I want to thank all of you for all the information! Bamajohn I did a google search on the 416 Stevens and it looks alot like my cousins rifle. But it doesn't have the barrel ring ,apture sight,or scope mount. Could you give me some information on unertl style scope mounts and can he still get them for that model? Thanks!

Coydog Is the rifle drilled and tapped? The sets of holes should be about seven inches apart . I don't know a # on the unertl bases but you can find them on ebay sometimes. As for the barrel band the one on mine looks like one on a savage 19 with the wood at the last 2in's or so on the forearm alot smaller than the rest of the forearm. But I have seen some that are a strap around the barrel with a threaded lug under the barrel with a screw comining up thru the forearm to apply some tenision to the barrel.
The rear sight bolts on the left side at the rear of the reiceiver and across the top for windage and a tall sectoin up for evelation sort of like a lyman but sill diffrent.
Check out e-gunparts.com and also gunbroker.com somtimes gunbroker has a 416 or a ranger for sale.
on the unertls they are nice for target shooting but they cost $$$$$$ I had a 20x 3/4 in tube fine crosshair 1/8 dot on mine that would focus down at 10yds and the dot would not cover a small "e" on a typewritten letter. traded it for a m-1 garand with some goodies with it . any thing else and i try to find you the answer on it

The gun is drilled and tapped on the front of the action and on the side in the back and it has a regular rear rifle sight mounted on the barrel. Did the ranger come out with regular rear sights or did someone mount the sight in the pre existing holes? Thank's

All the ones that I've seen have had a reciever peep sight and none out on the barrel. I would guess that someone swapped out the sights.
