New Anschutz 22mag.

Registered Users do not see the above ad.

Just picked up my first Anschutz 1516D-KL in 22 mag.The workmanship and look is first rate. Can't wait to try it out.My research on Anschutz says that these are real tack drivers even in 22 mag.Which is supposedly not an accurate round.Always has been accurate for me. I plan on using this for prairie dogs etc, anyway.

You won't be sorry. My dad has that very rifle and it will shoot ragged holes at 100 yards if the wind is not blowing too much. I will check with him and let you know which ammo it liked best.

Thumbs up

Gismo,
Thanks for the reply.I would like to know what brand your dad's gun likes.I have a friend that recommended Remington Supremes 33 gr. vmax. His Anschutz shoots the same ragged hole with these @ 100 yds.

Dads gun likes the Winchester Supremes, 34 grain JHP, and the Remingtons you have already mentioned. Both shoot equally well. Just depends of you want a hollow point or a ballistic tip.

I am a big fan of the .22 magnum also.
I have found the Winchester ammo to be the most accurate in all rifles I have tried. I believe this is because the Winchester .22 magnum bullets measure larger than .224". Some bullets loaded in the .22 magnum measure .2235" - CCI in particular. These bullets do not shoot as small groups in the micro groove barrels of the Marlin rifles.
I too have had very good results from the Remington plastic tip .22 magnum ammunition.

For shooting critters, skunks, racoons etc. I use the Federal Premium 50 grain cartridge. The 50 grain bullet penetrates very well on dense bodied critters.
Maybe some folks will tak nutria here. Some nutria can be hard to kill too.
