I'm probably way behind everyone else, but like a lot of people I'm trying to maximize velocity and minimize noise. I only have 10 acres and some "NO Shooting" neighbors. But like everyone else I have problems with possums and raccoons and rats.
I bought a box of the 17 Mach 2 ammo. I've been shooting the HMR. I'm a little concerned because the brass on the Mach 2 is Approx. .222" and the the HMR is.237". Is there going to be a problem shooting it in my Ruger M77/17?

That Mk2 round isn't made for that HMR cahmber...it's jnot like the .22short/.22LR combination.
Not saying you couldn't chamber it and fire it...but (1) the case will swell and blow it self out to straight 9or alomost stright) (2) case will probably split and release gas back into the action (and possibly your face) nad (3) bullet would kind of ping-pong off the end of the longer chamber before finding the rifling..doing he chamber, barrel, and accuracy no good at all.
Thanks for that, I did notice that the Mach2 is .222" and the HMR is .23something. So I didn't shoot it. Ya think they could clarify the difference a little more? I guess I'm too much of a weekend warrior and don't read enough. Everyone else probably has already been educated.

You just have to think of it compaired to the .22 mag and the .22LR. Both have different chambers. The 17HMR is a necked down .22 Mag case. The 17HM2 is a necked down .22LR case.
