Anyone out there familiar with the 70's Remingon 5mm Remington Magnum. I have one and had'nt shot it for years due to the scarcity of ammo. Thanks to Centurion this is no longer a problem. I wonder how long they will produce it. My question is, Does the 5mm hold up to the new super rimfire cartridges of today. I wonder because as a youngster, I killed many varmits with mine at all ranges out 100 yards. I wonder what the limits would be beyond 100 yds with better optics.

Way back in the early 1970's I was in the market for one of those neat little 5 m/m rifles. I asked a gun dealer about them and he said that he didn't believe it would go over very big with the shooting public. Several years later it was discontinued.

I just purchased a remmy 592m 5mm rimfire magnum with a full box of remington 38gr hp at a local gun show this past saturday for song. I got it home and didnt have to do an awfull lot of cleaning. The blueing is 99% but the stock as been refinished an could use the touch of a pro, barrel was spotless. My buddy just happened to have 18 rounds left over from his past and told me i could have so as to be able to shoot the gun with out useing any from my full box. I shot it this eve and zeroed the scope, man im as happy as a puppy with two peters. 6 shot's in a dime at 75yds. I ordered 4000 rounds from midway so I should be pretty set on ammo. I would recommend this little rifle for all varmits from point blank to 150 yds.

I've got a couple of them.

150 yards would be a good round number for its effective range. I'd stay under 100 on coyotes. On a still day, 200 would not be a stretch. I've not been real impressed with the accuracy of the first run of Centurion ammo. Hopefully the new hollow-point stuff will do better. But I have not tried it yet.

The 5mm RMM is definitely not what you think of when you think "rimfire". It's a stiff little round. Had it been introduced in 2000 instead of 30 years earlier, there would be no .17 HMR today. If a couple manufacturers woul put it in a modern day rifle, I still think it would take off. Are you listening CZ and Ruger??

I'm surprised someone would order 4,000 rounds of ANYTHING after only having put 18 of his buddy's left-overs through the gun. I know you can't reload this stuff, but wouldn't you buy 200 and shoot them all, to make sure you gun likes the round, before ordering four THOUSAND?

I agree with magnum. Bulk is better when you havent had ammo for many years and run the risk of it not being available again. 4000 should last through any drought. many others may kick themselves for not doing this as well. Then again, the load could catch on and he could have overspent, probably not though.
