Serial number on Remington model 41?

Registered Users do not see the above ad.

I recently inherited a bunch of old guns, 20 to be exact. Am trying to track down info on some of them. One is a Remington model 41 target master. Does anyone know where the serial number is found on this gun? The only number I see on it is 78, on the right side of the barrel just in front of the receiver. Has AF stamped on the left side, which apparently means this gun was made in march of 37? Thx in advance for any help, I am sure I will be back with many more questions as I sort through these guns. Great site too btw.

Welcome to the forum Smallmouth1. There's not a serial number on that gun, Remington didn't start putting serial numbers on their 22's until October of 1967 to comply with new laws starting in 1968. 1937 is the correct date of manufacture though. Remington made about 307,000 of the Model 41's in several variations between 1936 and 1939. They were chambered in 22 short, 22 Long, 22 Long Rifle, single shot bolt action. The Models were 41, 41A, 41PS, 41AS and 41SB, Model 41a Smooth Bore. Congrats on all the new guns you have received and good luck. Also there's a website called Remington Society of America with lots of info.

Thanks for the info on the Remington society of America. I will check that out for sure. As for the serial number, Remington's website says these were numbered 1 through 307,000. Is that incorrect?

Found it. Bottom of barrel right in front of stock. Doesn't show unless the light hits it just right. Remington society was the ticket. Thx for your help.
