Load for Lee 12 gauge slugs

Registered Users do not see the above ad.

I purchased a 1 oz Lee slug mould and down loaded their load receipes. The loads given don't match any of my accumulation of powders and wads. None of my loading books, including Lee's, give me any thing for these slugs. It occured to me that a one ounce load is the same whether it is shot or slugs and that I should be able to use any reciepe that matches my available components. Now, as I said, this seems totally reasonable to me, but then so have some other things I've done that turned out to be flawed ideas, some disasterously so. What I need is competent advice.

I have loaded 525grn lyman slugs for some time. All I can tell you is start experamenting start with lower powder loads and keep moving up to get a load that shoots good for your gun. Blue dot has worked well for me. Be cautious of 4th edition lyman loads, I loaded a 3" shell with 50grns. of Blue dot (page 284) it dang near knocked me over. I setled for 35grns it gives me a nice groops and only 8" drop at 100yards, which seems like alot but with the low recoil its nice.

I just realized that my lyman book only shows data for their 475 grain foster. I will be on the hunt for data and will reply soon.

I've been using the Lyman 525 slug in a Mossburg 500 rifled barrel with very satisfactory results. I bought the Lee mould to use in a smoothbore slug barrel. The loading information that Lee provides is for powders I don't have in stock and that is the rub. I've got several large cans of 800x, 700x ,4756 and others. I thought it would be possible to use them with the Lee slug rather than purchase what Lee gave loads for.

Is your mold the one with the drive key? If so check out www.alliantpowders.com for data.

Yes it is the key drive in one ounce. I tried the link but didn't find loading data. Thanks though,
