I have a Win M37 20 gauge Youth model and is it possible for this model to have a serial # on the receiver under the barrel release lever? Mine does.

Welcome to the Forum

It depends. I have a few Winchester Model 37 shotguns without serial numbers. When the Gun Control Act of 1968 was implemented on December 16, 1968 it required all guns (handguns, rifles and shotguns) to have a serial number. So if your Model 37 was made after 1968, it had to have a serial number. Hope this helps. Take care...

I wish it did but all Model 37's were discontinued by Winchester in 1963 and the Youth/Boys/Red Dot model was only made from 1958-63. I have heard that some M37's were serialized for import purposes but have not been able to confirm that, Thanks for your reply.

It would be nice if they serial numbered them. I've got a 28" full choke 16 gauge that belonged to my father. All I've been able to find is they made them from 1936-1963. The model 37a was made from 1973-1981. They're good no frills guns.

Win M37

Thanks Roverboy. Mine defintely not a 37A. And it's really funny when I go turkey hunting with pro-turkey hunters with $1000 Benelli's and other custom turkey shotguns... and I'm carrying an old single shot Winchester Model 37 12 gauge ($150)....and bring in same size or bigger turkey!! It's a great gun. I hope to use the 20 ga M37 next year with the same results!! DPH
