I had exactly the same problem with my Rossi Trapper in 44!

I fixed mine by replacing the sights with XS Ghost Ring sights, and the accuracy of the rifle now is where it should have been in the first place. The sights give you an exact 100yrd zero straight out of the box!

They come with 2 apertures, one large for hunting and one small for target shooting. I use the larger one. The field of view is great for running shots.

I can put 5 shots into an inch at 100yrds off a bench, and keep 5 shots within a 4 inch circle at 100yrds offhand.

This is an easy and relatively inexpensive way of turning these rifle into great shooters.
I highly recommend these sights for all lever guns that don't make scope mounting possible or easy. I even have them on a Mod94 top eject in 30-30, and an original 92 in 44-40!

Ive been thinking about getting xs sights for this rifle. Do you know the modle # that works with this particular rifle? I did get the correct factory front sight and the gun is shooting perty good. Ive only shot factory hornady leverevolution rounds and Federal american Eagel 240g SJHP. Hopefully soon ill get some extra money to buy dyes and shell holder for the single and the shell plate for the progressive so i can try out some handloads.

I had the same problem when trying to find a good sight for my Model '92...wound up with one that is really a little too high, but I just hold low of the target and it's fine out to 100 yards, or so. With my old eyes, I'm not sure it makes much difference, anyway!

I have a new BrazTech 16 inch barrel stainless 44mag that I have not fired yet. After reading all of this I decided to get the calipers out and measure the sights. According to the Marbles formulas the front sight is about 1/8 in (3mm) too short. It is .360 in or about 9mm above the barrel.

I spoke to Steve Young (Steves Gunz) and he said that it is very difficult to get parts right now. So, I am not even going to try to get a sight from my dealer.

Steve suggested a Skinner front sight if I can live with a skinny (.050 inch) sight. My Rossi sight is .080 in wide.

I went to the Skinner web site ( http://skinnersights.com ) and ordered the front blade sight. It is too tall, but can be filed down to the exact height needed. The dovetail is a little oversize also allowing a custom fit.

The Skinner site says he will build any height or width you want. I am going to try the thin one and then decide if I need a custom fit one.

It is a cheap experiment. I will post the exact height I wind up with with both 44 special and 44 mag ammo. It may take me a while.

Jim

Zapzoo,
From memory the part No. is #LG-0001-5, gunsmithing is required to have the rear aperture installed.
They are well worth the money! I cannot believe how well my rifle shoots with 'em, it's just as good as a low power scope!
