Just couldn't help myself

My son and law and I were at the local Academy Sports looking at hunting stuff while waiting on my daughter to meet us. The gun counter clerk was taking a Marlin 45-70 guide gun out of the factory box to put on the gun rack. My cousin had been trying to locate me one for about a month without any success. I asked the price and found it to be resonable. I just told him to put it back in the box and fill out the paperwork cause I was gonna take her home. My son in law just laughed and said that was the worse case of impulse buying he had seen in a long time. Well all said, I now have my sixth Marlin lever action. I had a Ruger #3 in 45-70 years before but had to sell it to pay bills. I have been wanting another one for years. My want got satified yesterday.

I got my guide gun as an impulse buy. Very accurate gun. I did put a recoil pad on it and liked it even better.

Yea, I am looking forward to shooting it. I had a camping trip planned with my grandson for this weekend so I guess I will have to get some bruises next week after work. Bought some Hornady FTX and Winchester 300 grs to try. I have molds, dies and brass left from my last gun. Should be set to go again. My last Ruger #3 liked the 300 grs at about 1750 fps. That load put a lot of deer in my freezer.

My guide gun was an impulse buy....just took me a few months to get the money together LOL.

I'm with Griz, never met one that didnt like shooting it. Just 2wks ago there was a 17yr old senior higher that we had at the range that had never held a rifle. He shot the 17HMR Handi-rifle first and then started asking questions about my Thumper. We assured him there would be few rifles among his friends that would have this kind of firepower. He shouldered and fired. Should've seen the look on his face. Pure ecstacy

I too am a member of guide guns anonymous. I currently have 3 and still have the urge (at times) to get another. I know you can only shoot one at a time but worry about them being lonely.

I've found that you cant be anonymous when you touch off that smokewagon. Everybody within a mile knows it's you.

It's a disease you have, I hope you get inoculated so that you never get over it. That is why I am shooting an older than me 32 Win Spcl that I bought in a coffee can.

25-20 is also a result of that disease. I hope I never get over it, they are nothing but fun guns and beats the dickens out of guns I researched endlessly, agonized over and finally made my choice. Ho hum, just another gun when all is said and done but impulse guns can be like stray mutts, best dog or gun you ever had.

Enjoy the Guide Gun, I love mine. Mine must have been an impulse buy as well, there is nothing big enough to need a 45-70 in Alabama.
