Of course, the hydrostatic shock is hard to quantify regardless of caliber.
yeah your right, but if were talkin a 100 grain bulet it most likely wouldnt be bigger than .25 cal, a .338 with a 225 grain bullet (if the right bullets are used) you will get a much bigger hole, so more damage. but really I'v seen deer poleaxed from many different cartridges, so i guess it just boils down to how big the deer are, and how good of bullets your using.

Tang, the big magnums arent for "busting the shoulders down" there for extending range, a .300 mag is no more effective than a .308 at close ranges, guess what im trying to say is, if theb ullets are the same, the higher velocity likely wont get you any more penetration, maybe even less.

This has gone on a long while now. What do you hunt Tang? Virginia has woodchucks for deer. I'm sorry but I don't buy this macho crap. If you really had a clue, you would be more reasonable. I respect a persons right to their own deal, however after a while it is easy to see through. The way I see it, you could not shoot with most of these men for accuracy on the bench, or in the field. You would flinch. Then you would stand there and blame something. I am not stupid nor are the other posters here. I don't think you are either, but get off that macho recoil makes better crap. Sick of hearing about how a .338 Mag. is needed for a deer. If you want to play and have travel money you can PM me and I'll give you directions to a good schooling. I'll use my .25's and it will be in N.Y. Good day

I know a guy who hunts whitetails with a .338 WinMag with at 1X scope and 225gr bullets, IIRC. He says he likes to hit them really hard. It isn't my shoulder that has to deal with the recoil so I don't care However, I've had pass-through double shoulder shots with .30-06 with 180gr SP bullets so I know that's big enough of a gun to do it. Most of the time I shoot boiler room shots so just about anything works there. This year, I will try out the .260 Rem w/ 140gr PSP on a shoulder shot when I get a good chance. I'm pretty confident it will pass through as well but I'm confident it will put it down, regardless, or I wouldn't try the shot. I'm hoping to find out this coming weekend
