Howdy guys,
I have to determine what poundage or let off I want on my .44 mag Encore pistol trigger.I have to let my gunsmith know who is building my Encore. This will be mostly a deer hunting pistol but will be shooting it at the range also. Will be wearing shooting gloves also.My thoughts would be around 3-4 lbs. How are the triggers on these pistols. Is this something I should have worked before he sets when the trigger breaks? Thanks guys, Steve

Very personal question. I like the encore with a very light trigger. Everyone is different.
You may want to try several triggers and see what you like. Have him measure that and you should be happy with it.
Encore trigger setting is about where you like a rifle, or maybe a little lighter.

My Triggers

I have several T/C's. This includes the Encore Pro Hunter and a couple of the older Contenders.

I have worked my own triggers down to around 2lbs. If this is not for you,so be it. But......for a hunting weapon I would set yours at 3lbs. But to me, as important is with no creep and almost no over travel. Some of the T/C's have an overtravel screw that you can set yourself. If not,it is a very simple install for a gunsmith.

An accurate weapon has to have the "right" trigger. -----pruhdlr

The gloves are the fly in the ointment. It is surprisingly easy to set a gun off accidentally with a glove on. It has two causes. One is that some glove fingers are fat enough to press the trigger just pushing the tip into the trigger guard. You have to be careful not to do that. Finding the leading edge of the trigger guard with the nail side of the trigger finger in the glove, then sliding it into place with the nail pressure forward on the guard is a good countermeasure.

The second issue is the padding spreads the pressure out over a larger area of finger pad, so it will feel lighter with the glove on, no matter what number you choose. For that reason, you are better off to get a clean break that errs on the heavy side for the glove, then use a broad removable trigger shoe when you want to use the trigger without gloves. I think 3-3.5 lbs would likely be a good number, but see if you can try a couple of Encores with an without the glove you intend to use, just to get a sense of the difference? If you are prone to buck fever, realize adrenaline will decrease your touch sensitivity still further.

Good points. I've never shot with gloves so I didn't think of that. I have thought about a glove with my '06 encore because after about 20 or 30 shots I start to feel it in the web of my hand. I figured on a fingerless glove because I can't imagine trying to be accurate with anything but an exposed finger on the trigger so that you can feel what's going on.

I certainly wouldn't go any lower than 3 pounds on a hunting gun, but if your gunsmith can make that Encore trigger anywhere near as good as the Contender, you'll be very happy with it. I honestly didn't know what a really good trigger felt like before I was given a T/C Contender by a relative. It turns out it had been worked on and is still the best I've ever shot, personally. It is my understanding the Encore can be made to be just as good, or nearly so.

Pretty easy to get an encore trigger where you want it. Years ago I got three trigger springs from Bellm (I think that's all he had then) and I tried all three plus honed the the trigger. Ended up with the lightest spring and the trigger is very light with a nice crisp break.
Sold that encore to my brother when I had to raise cash to get my 40x. I now have another Encore and I am going to order about three trigger springs plus all the other springs he has to offer. Instead of using stones that I have I'm going to order stones and hones from him also and work this one over. I still have the CD that I ordered back when I did the first one but you can download the instructions now.
The heavy locking springs are suppose to help with accuracy through consistency and the heavy hammer spring is going to go in just because.
I would bet that my old encore trigger was under a pound. I am going to try and duplicate the old trigger with the new gun. I will have to get my old encore from my brother to compare when setting it up.
