Does anyone know if the Encore can handle the .338 lapua? I have been looking in the custom shops for this chambering but can't find it. One company told me the Encore was way too weak for the pressure developed by the Lapua. I find this a bit hard to believe.

encore preasures

Call the guys at the mgm barrels and discuss this with them. I am not sure on the Lapua, but the 338RUM is no longer offered by them due to this. It has to do with the scope mount holes on top of the barrel and how much meat is availabe due to the restrictions of the encore frame. I love my encores, and was thinking about the 338rum, but will go with the 338winmag and a longer barrel. The guys at mgm said that they have seen barrels split in this area before with the 338rum and thus they no longer offer the loading. Hope this helps,
Good Luck!

I would like to know the same...well kind of...lol

I have been wanting a 338 Lapua for sometime now. Due to the really high price andthe fact that I am just a normal working guy I can not afford it. So I thought how about getting a Ruger No 1 Standard in 300 win mag or 338 win mag. Than take it to the gun shop and get it rechambered for the 338 Lapua....Would this work????

On a similar note, I was interested in the 375 Ruger shown on the T/C website for the Encore Pro Hunter. The custom shop told me they never built it because they determined the pressure was too high for the Encore. Don't know about your specific question, but it's certainly not out of the question.
