I would like to have my Ruger #1 B -7MM Rem mag, rechambered into a 7MM STW.
Has anyone done this before and can it be done.
Also is there a lot of work involved.

I had my 30-06 rechambered to 30-06 A.I. and it didn't take the gunsmith very long.

It would be a fairly simple rechamber to the 7STW in a #1B, however you should consider a complete bbl while your weapon is "away".

It could come back to you with a heavier(or slightly heavier)bbl. Maybe in brushed stainless. Maybe even a longer throat so you could take advantage of those longer bullets seated out to the lands. And maybe a longer length that would actually use what the 7STW has to offer. Saaaay.... 28 inch ??

The 7STW is a great long range caliber. It can really produce if properly loaded for.

Edit to Add----> for me the twist rate with a new bbl would be the origional 9.5 or even drop down to 9 if contemplating the longer bullets(A-Max,etc)

Easy simple and should be cheap to do.
I do agree that you might want to look at a barrel though. Do some research on the powder and bullets that you think you might want to use and look at the twist of the magnum barrel to see if it's going to be the best choice for your bullets that you want. See what you are going to need for barrel length to burn the power.
What you are going to get with the STW (to me) is better long range performance. Long range and 26" to 28" barrel that was mentioned go together well.

Seem to remember Layne Simpson developed that cartridge on a 26" barrel. Ruger brought out an 8" twist barrel on the 77 in the late 80's,I would think that if you have one of those on your #1 you might be best to consider rebarreling. I know on my 77 it lost at least 50-75fps (think it was 3gr H870 less) to where the pressure signs started showing compared to the Browning A-bolt in 7mm rem mag. No point in hampering yourself to build an STW.
