Are the NEF single shots available?

I've been trying to get a NEF single shot in .357 and my dealer hasn't had any luck...for some time. Is he not trying, or did they shut down production for some reason?

RR and Davidsons both have the Talo Trapper in stock.

Bud's has both the rifle and the combos in stock.

It's hard to find a gun shop around here that DOESN'T have .357 H&R in stock, but that's because it's commonly used for deer hunting in Indiana. My favorite local shop usually has 5 or 6 H&R guns, in various calibers/combos, hanging on the wall. I have heard H&R is having some kind of production issues, but I'm not really sure where I saw that.

Without actually saying it, Broom_jm alluded to the fact that NEF is no longer producing Handi Rifles by using the name H&R in place of NEF. They are being made solely by H&R at this time. They are the same Handi Rifle and the H&R/NEF barrels will fit either reciever but you will not find any current production models being made by NEF.

Regards,

Josh Walker

Are you reaming it out yourself or having it done by a gunsmith? I would be very interested to hear how this gun works out for you and what kind of performance you get with it.

Broom,

I am sending it to a gunsmith in Ok. named David White. He was recommended to me by Mike Bellm. He has the correct reamer to get rid of the forcing cone(or most of it).

I won't be sending it out for a week or so but Mike told me he is looking at a few day turn around is all so it won't be long and I'll have it done. When it is done , I will start up a new thread on the subject. I am pretty interested and curious about the results too!

Jeff

What About......

May I ask,is the twist rate in the 357mag NEF conducive to the heavier bullets going somewhat faster outta the 357 Max.

The NEF 357 interests me also in that I have a grunch of 38special and mag loaded rounds. And the Max could make a great close range deer/hog round for the wife. Any problem with putting the specials down the chamber of a max as long as you kept it clean ?? ----pruhdlr

I don't think the twist rate will affect anything in a negative way. I have been told by both "smiths" that they have had great results with the same and similar projects plus have reports from many happy customers.

Shooting the Mag or Special wouldn't be any different than in any other gun...You have to get that Carbon ring cleaned out of the chamber before using the longer cartridges again.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply,jkbt1. Will be looking forward to your post on the "project".

I looked around a little and found that NEF offers two of these models. One with wood and one with Ryanite and 18.75 and 22" bbl. Which will be your project gun ??

If Mike Bellm recommends a "smith",that would most certainly be good enough for me. ----pruhdlr
