Question 1873 ('79) Trapdoor Sprg. Carbine

Registered Users do not see the above ad.

I have owned this .45-70 SR carbine for some 20 years now.
Thru research, I have determined that serial # 144XXX puts it at 1881 mfg. There were 501 carbines made that year.
It is not all original and I would classify it as a shooter at best. The bore is rough but there's a lot of rifling there.
I have fired it (15 years ago) with BP lead reloads (mine) and it seems fine.
The saddle ring is a replacement but a nice copy. The bar is original.
The RS is not original to the gun but I'm 99% sure it is "correct" for the date of it.
The wood is rough with no cartouches left.
It has the trap door in the butt stock for the cleaning rod and broken ctg. extractor which I have a repro of.
What I am wondering, does anyone have an idea of the worth of my carbine.
An old friend that was a manager for Navy Arms once told me that ANY carbine is worth $600. ???

I have no current pics.

Thanks in advance.

I would say that your friend is right. Any shooter carbine would be worth $600 in my mind. Hard to put a value on it without detailed pictures or better yet looking at it.
If I had $600 to spend right now, I would make an offer on it! I have an '84 rifle but would love a carbine for hunting.
