I am looking to purchase a 35 Whelen asap and have been considering the CVA Scout and the H&R Handi. I have been looking for the Scout for the last 2 weeks from Gulfport to Mobile and have been unsuccessful. Does anyone know who may have some in stock and if so what the price would be. I live in Mobile at the moment but will travel a reasonable distance if needed.
Also has the 35 Whelen Scout had any issues like the Handi 35 Whelen has. I originally was going to get the 35 in the H&R Handi but after doing some research found out about all the firing pin/transfer bar issues. I've located a place on the Coast to get a good price on a Handi that supposively has received all of theirs back "fixed" , but I've seen on the internet that many of the "fixed" ones are still having issues. Does anyone know if the H and R's fix is working or not. I'm leary of the Handi now and do not want to run into this type of issue with the Scout if I'm able to locate and purchase one.

I picked up a new Handi in 35 Whelen this week and didn't know anything about the firing pin/transfer bar issues.
Mine was NIB and had the REP in the oval stamped on the barrel. I put 12 rounds through it in a quick sight in session with no problems. Hwy 90 pawn in Gautier might have the CVA. They had a pretty good selection of Handi's.

I was in this place, about 4/1/10, and I think the one that I was fondling was a .35 Whelen.

Van's in Brandon has them. They have the CVA and the Handi-Rifle in 35 Whelen. I just checked the above link and it is for Van's. It is out past Whitfield State Hospital, Law Enforcement Training Academy, and the prison. Very good place to shop. The folks in there know what they are selling and are happy to help in any way they can.
I asked them about the Handi 35 issues and was told they were fixed. The camo Handi was nice but there was something about the Scout..........nice firearm.
