I'm here new so if i mess this up, I appreciate help in learning. I was curious if anyone has ever rechambered an H&R SB2-231 .30-30 barrel to .375 winchester ? and if so who can do the work?

Wayne York of Oregunsmithing has done a rebore/rechamber to 375 Win for a friend on a 223 Rem barrel, he's done a bunch of H&R rechambers and rebores for me. I would have considered the same course of action if I didn't have two 38-55 H&Rs that I shoot 375 Win loads using custom .379" jacketed bullets. Have fun with your project!!

Thank's for the reply, I called Mr. York and left a message just waiting on a reply. i was hoping to be able to use the 22 inch iron sighted barrel for my conversion rether than a bull barrel (wanted to keep the open sight's)

Wayne's minimum muzzle diameter for a .375" rebore is .550", so the 22" barrel will be fine, he'll even do a Superlight barrel, a bull barrel isn't necessary, a standard contour barrel like the 30-30 is fine.

that's great cause i really wanted to keep the sights and the original contour . he already returned the call, but i was away from my phone and missed him so i'll try again tomorrow. i was mostly concerned about the pressure issue the 30-30 is rated at a lot lower pressure than the .375 and i was concerned that might be an issue with using that particular barrel.

Not a problem, modern (1987 and later) H&R centerfire rifle barrels are 4140 alloy, the 30-30 barrel is no different than a 270 Win which H&R also chambers, it has a SAAMI MAP of 65kpsi while the 375 Win is about 60kpsi which has a much smaller case head, both the 30-30 and 270 Win come on SB2 frames. I load my 38-55 H&R to 60kpsi, do the same with my 30-30AI H&R.

I really appreciate the information, i'm feeling better bout this project already. now just have to make contact with Wayne and get it put into action. i plan to use her for stalk hunting with a low power scope as most shot oppertunites will be under a hundred and in moderate cover i think this will be the perfect combination.

You know, around the existing bore, to bore it out to .375? Those H&R bbls are mighty thin...

(actually you could probably safely bore it to 20mm).

You must be referring to old H&R Inc barrels which were lighter, but still comparable to current Superlight contours. H&R Inc went out of business in 1986, those barrels wouldn't be suitable for a 30-30 conversion to 375Win due to the soldered underlug, underlugs on modern barrels are welded. Those older ductile cast iron frames would also be unsuitable, modern(post 1987) SB2 frames are heat treated, investment cast alloy steel.

As I already stated, Wayne requires a .550" muzzle for a .375" rebore, even the Superlight barrels are ~.600-.625", modern standard contour barrels run .650"-.700" at the muzzle.

OK, juat talked to Wayne, and it's a go. going to wait till the holiday's are past and then ship it. but i think after talking to wayne i'm gonna do the 38-55 chamber (just for the versatility and the fact it's like getting two in one) many thank's for all the advice and help and Tim im gonna put a note in the box that you referred me to Wayne. oh and stinky, yeah there should be plenty of room the muzzle is measuring about .701 if my calipers are right, (but thanks for the input i've had a lot of second thoughts myself) and the breech is way adequate. now I'm excited!!!

Twas being sarcastic....it seems like all of their bbls are made out of the same blank, for a 12 gauge.

Shotgun and rimfire barrels are 1137 mild steel, centerfire rifle are 4140 alloy, stainless are 416 series with magnetic properties. All standard chamberings have a 1.1" chamber swell to fit the SB1 shotgun/rifle and SB2 rifle frames, the 10ga based barrels have a 1.2" chamber swell requiring an SB2 shotgun frame.

have to agree with stinky - my .35 Whelen, .45-70, and .223 bull barrel all seem to have the same barrel profile
They may not accommodate a .20mm but a .600 Nitro might just fit
