Can I make my win 1885 shoot .338 lapua

I dont know the answer but that would be a heck of a thumper.

We have to do it. How sweet would that be. Droppin moose half a mile away with a gun designed over 100 years ago. I don't see why not. That handle huge rounds all day long no problem. Sign me up!!-

Winchester is now making a Safari version of the 1885 in .375 H&H Magnum, so it could probably handle the pressure. You might want to check the stock strength if the recoil is much more than the .375. Not to mention that your skill would probably limit your moose shots to a somewhat lesser range... :-)

I'm a competent woodworker and have a brother in law with a metal shop so I'm pretty certain I can beef up the stock if necessary Does any one know of a competent gunsmith that cam engineer a barrel to acomidate such a cartridge. I can't imagine the fun I could have tweaking such a rifle

I don't definitly know your answer but I do know the Encore frame can't handle it. I already looked into that one.
