does anyone here know of a gunsmith in the new orleans area that would fit and mount my scope on my 1885 with conetol mounts? it appears its more of an undertaking than i had bargained for and i have already purchased the mounts. paramount to me is correct positioning of the reticle etc...

I am going to go out a limb and ask a few stupid questions because I am not familiar the conetrol mounts other than what I have read about them after seeing your post. The bases are made to fit the rifle they are being mounted on. Is this going on one of the old 1885's or one of the new ones? If new did you get the bases that were made for that rifle? I understand the scope is alignable to the barrel, is this the part people are having problems with? The bases come pre-drilled, and if the 1885 is new the barrel is predrilled and pretapped, so mounting the bases I assume is not the issue. Please give more information about the situation you need help.
