I have an NEF Handi rifle, wooden stock, NOT youth size in 22-250 and would like to add another barrel like 30-30, 35 Rem. or similar for use as a heavy brush deer rifle. If I were to find a barrel does it have to be mated to my action and if so, what would be the procedure....send it to the factory or can a local gunsmith handle this. Once done am I correct to assume my 22-250 and other barrel would fit perfect?

They do need to be fit. The barrels are relatively inexpensive though you do need to yours in for fitting.

H&R accessory rifle barrels cost about $160 after fitting fee, shipping both ways and tax, second hand barrels can be fitted by a competent smith or yourself if you're the DIY type, knowing how is another matter. H&R is very restrictive on what frames they'll fit barrels to, they won't fit any rifle barrels to SB2 frames made before 1999, you can call them and ask when your frame was made, or compare the serial number prefix with the list of mfr codes in the FAQs and Help sticky at the link below, you'll also find barrel fitting info in the FAQs. H&R may be able to fit a second hand barrel that you send them with the frame if it qualifies, if they can't fit the used barrel, they'll contact you to make arrangements for a new barrel, or return it unfitted.
