I live in north Alabama and haven't hunted at about 25 years. What are my best ways to find hunting land? Any hunting clubs or land leasesaround that I can get into?

Anything (land, hunting clubs, and leases) close to HSV is very expensive (to me). Everything reasonable (to me) is like 1.5+ hour drive one-way. I don't get to hunt a lot... just a few Saturdays each season, so I have just been going to public lands... I've been to Skyline, east of here, and Bankhead National Forest and Black Warrior WMA west of here. Skyline is 'mountain' hunting and I don't know much about that. The west ones are more like I grew up hunting.

The best ways to find land around here is asking owners for permission. There is alot of club land around too, but I dont see the point in paying that much money for two and a half months of deer season. Most land owners around here are fairly friendly and offering to pay some always helps.

I may have to try that. the WMA I use is very poor. When I tell my eife I'm going hunting, she says I'm just going for a walk in the woods with my rifle. Rifle season here is almost as bad as in California. The forest turns into the LA freeway. Primitive season is so much better.

Any day is a good day to take your rifle for a walk in the woods. Do not be shy about asking a farmer for permission to hunt on his land, all he can say is yes or no. If he says yes, remember to share your game with him or her.
