My girlfriends grandfather has a ranch that is loaded with axis deer. I have been out there to hunt them a couple of times, and its great because I can hunt them year round, and they have antlers year round. But I want a big trophy buck, and from my experiance the best way to get one of those on an open range ranch is to use lures.

So Im new to axis deer hunting and I dont know what lures to use, and if there are even any avalible!

Find out when the rut is, and hunt them then. They get stupid!

Good luck. I hear they eat pretty good.... been meaning to try and shoot one myself, but spend too much time shooting pigs :D

They are in rut year round, the females can give birth 3-4 times a year, thats what makes me think that if I can find a lure that is specificly made for axis deer then the hunting would be increadible.

Good advice from Mike G. I've used the doe in heat lures, which are best if you can soak a cotten ball or specially made scent wick and place in a tree about 5 feet off the ground so that the "message" will be sent around the area effectively but will be high enough that the deer can't bring it down. Do some scouting ahead of time, without your rifle so you won't be tempted to take a bad shot. Pay attention to the signs, such as tracks, droppings, and what the deer are feeding on in your area at this time of the year. Axis are browsers just like native whitetail, and take advantage of available plants, like wild persimmons, agarita, acorns, etc. if you are going after a trophy, invest in some decent camo gear, and pay attention to your own scent, whether it is normal body odor, perfumes or everyday laundry detergent scents, and learn how to cover them up. Unscented soap, deoderant, and laundry soap without UV enhancers are readily available usually in the same section that the deer lures are at. Also, think about other lures besides doe in heat or buck rut. Sometimes adding some apples to available feed does the trick, as does putting out a limited amount of deer corn, just don't go out of corn the entire ranch, you gotta limited the goodies so they'll be a little competition. You may also want to look up how to age a deer, so you can recognize an older buck versus a younger one if the size of the racks are similar. Also learn how to cape the animal when skinning it so your trophy can be mounted in all it's splender.

And lastly, in exchange for a free axis hunt, I'd be happy to tutor you at your grandfather's ranch, no charge! ;)
