WTS/WTT: Match ammo, 30-06 and 7.62

WTS/WTT:
I have some ammo that someone who is still into competition shooting could use.
Some Frankford Arsenal 30-06 Match ammo, some Lake City 7.62 Match ammo, and some 7.62 Special Ball Ammo (Match bullets and powder in mil brass).

Items I would trade for:
• Cash
• Rifle scope - Leupold VX-3: 1.5-5X or 1.75-6X or 2.5-8X.
• Aimpoint Red Dot sight - Model CompC3 or CompM4S
• Reloading dies for 375 Ruger caliber
• GPS unit
• Range Finder
• Rifle - P64 Win Mdl 64 (30-30) or 62A (22 Rimfire)
I am willing to add cash since some of the items would be worth more than the ammo.

Only Have '06 Match & Sp. Ball

Last evening I opened the cans labeled Match and found that some were mislabeled. None had 7.62 Match. All were FA 30-06 Match. 5 Cans of 400 per can and 1 partial can. All with ammo in 20 round boxes. The other cans I have marked Special Ball do actually have that ammo.
I am offering the '06 Match for $30 per 20 round box and the Sp. Ball for $21.
Sorry for the error.
Thanks,
Bob Nisbet

Bob,

It might be a good idea to list the year on the on the boxes (should be the same as on the headstamp). I understand 1958 was a late corrosively primed contribution. 1959, '60, '61 were OK in that regard, AFAIK. Obviously, 1940 and earlier would be corrosively primed.

My recollection is that my FA 30-06 is from 1967 or 1968.
All still in original sealed 20 round boxes and in the original cans that have the appropriate stencil marking.
When someone shows a specific interest I will dig it out of my closet and check the exact date. I will make sure it is acceptable to the buyer before I sell it. Will even provide pictures upon request.
Thanks,
Bob Nisbet

My list doesn't show any FA match ammo after 1961. Just LC. But it's not complete, ending in 1966. I have some '68 that is LC, but I don't know about '67 specifically. I'd be interested to learn what your boxes actually say, as I'd sure like to know about holes in the history of NM ammunition.

I went back and did a more thorough inspection.
It is all FA 1961.
I also found that I have 885 pieces of that year FA 30-06 match brass fired in my match Garand.
Found another 400.
Have over 1200 total.
I think 22cents is a reasonable price, but I am also open to discussing that.

Well, at least we know it's non-corrosive. The specs I have for that year are:

FA 61
48.5 grains IMR 4895 (bulk lot about 3.3% slower than current canister grade; Equivalent to 47.6 grains of current canister grade according to QuickLOAD). 173 grain 9° BT bullet at 2460 fps. Mean Radius at 600 yards from heavy test barrel: 3.1".

Jeff Bartlett has new GI match brass (LC 68) from pull-downs at .25/case in 1000 quantity. If you clean and resize and trim that brass, based on .308 processed brass prices you might get as much as 0.20/case. I'd figure maybe .10 -.15/case without the extra work.

I got a quote of the number of pieces per pound and did a quick check of current brass recycle prices.
A person can get just under 10 cents per round just by selling the brass as scrap.
Based on that I think 22 cents as a starting point is not unreasonable.

The scrap price is pretty astonishing. I notice Bartlett is asking more ($350/1000) for once-fired 7.62 M118 LR cases. I suppose it's because they've got no crimps, like match brass, and have never been through a machine gun. The .30-06 may be extra cheap because he's had it a long time.
