just wondering if anyone has messed around with 9.3s (.366) at all?

The 9.3 BS looks interesting, but I haven't tried it. It's a 350 Rem mag necked up to .366. It was a project of Barsness and Sisk, so there's probably an article you could find online about it.

Took the 9.3x74r & fireformed to a 45lc, by firing in the thompson 45lc/410. This gives me a very long 45lc, no jump to the rifiling. It's a fun cartridge to experiment/play with. Just another variation.

I am having a heckuva time picturing what you just described. You took a case that is, by it's designation, 74mm long and fireformed it to a 45LC, which is normally only 32.64mm long? You more than doubled the length of the cartridge and you can still chamber/fire it, in your Contender?!

Do you trim the case, or something? Are you saying you created a long 45/70 case? That would make a little more sense...I've got to be misunderstanding this, somehow.

That would have been in one of those barrels with the long .410 chamber, right? So I can see gaining some case length if that is true.....

Mike G is correct, the 9.3x74r was annealed, then loaded and fired in a 3" chamber in the contender 45lc/410 barrel, this caused the brass to expand. In successive firings with 40, then 44 the 45 cal the brass expanded to .479 and was shrinking in length, so no reason to trim. I hope I answered your question and concern.

I think I got it now...I had to do a little research to understand how the 3" chamber for the .410 shotshell was long enough to perform that feat of metallurgy you're doing with the 9.3 cases.

Given the relatively enormous case capacity, how do you go about reloading for the end result you get from this process? I would think that any of the standard charges for a 45LC load would not create nearly enough pressure, since there is so much empty space. Do you wind up loading it more like a 45/70, or 45/110, or something?

Can you give an example of the loads you shoot, including bullet weight, powder type and charge?

The fireforming loads were approx 14 gr of Lil gun, under a finger tight lead or jacketed bullet. The loads once fully fireformed, could be in the 45lc range for accuracy (which was the original intent) to low presure 45/70 loads that the shooter can and wants to handle, Mild to Wild,
Trail Boss is one such low presure powder in which I have used 45/70 starting loads +.This is where good sense comes into play, be careful
since this is an unendorsed cartridge by any powder manufacturer that I'm aware of. The original information on this shell came from various forums and the reports of Mike P who had good luck in harvesting deer with his loads. Your mileage may vary. Please be sure you only do this in a solid firearm. All my shooting has been done in a T/C Contender/G2 which I beleive will handle hotter loads than I want to handle.
