I believe Lapua produced a .300 Lapua Magnum before the .338 Lapua Magnum. However, there is also a .30 Wolf, which is a .338 Lapua Magnum necked down. My gunsmith is very active with this wildcat. I'm not sure what the difference is, but I know that Lapua developed a new annealing process for the .338 to accommodate the pressures. You should be able to find out more about it on longrangehunting.com or artactical.com.
