I have two loads for my new to me 8mm Remington Magnum in a 700 Rem. rifle with a 24in Barrel. It is like a wildcat as Remington has not produced a non - custom rifle for it in decades.

One uses the new160 gr Barnes Tipped TSX BT bullet (B.C. .400) at 3140 fps (chronographed) - pushed by 74gr of H380 - very accurate and definitely below the max. of about 3400 fps. This may be my best all around load for antelope to elk. I had good results with 165 gr. bullets for deer and elk at 2,800 fps - so this 160 gr bullet should do the job. I ended up only using the load on a 25 shot into a deer’s neck (spine), not much of a test and no bullet recovered.

My meat hunter load being 200 gr Barnes XFB pushed by 69gr RL22 to roughly 2475fps (did not chronograph it), about the equiv. of a 308 Win but with a slow 200 gr.

I have not developed a load for bull elk hunting; I was thinking of using the 200 gr. Nosler Partition but load development for the 160 gr for an antelope trip took up more time than planned.

Of course, the normal stipulations apply – use at your own risk! I will not be held responsible for you results. You must start with your reloading books starting load and work up to the 160 load with caution. Yes, I mean you need to start with your reloading books starting load and work down to the 200 gr. Load with caution.

I also have aquired a list of other peoples handloads and would love to here about your favorite loads.
