I'm having a .257 Ackley improved made as we speak on a Yugo Mauser action. But i doubt I'll shoot anything lighter than 100 grain bullets. If I want a varmint rifle, all I have to do is pull out my .223 or my 22-250. Also, after this .257 Roberts AI is finished, I am having another Yugo rebarrled to a 6mm Rem. And so I will have many, many rifles more suited to varminting.

I shoot a built up .257 Ackley Improved and have done so since 1978. It is a Rem. 721 action with a Douglas 24.5" Air Gauge bbl. I use it for Antelope, Coastal Black Tail deer and Mountain Lion. I use Barnes XP 120 gr bullets and have had tremendous success with it. I even shot two ferral Hogs with it. And neither one got up and ran away. I know there are probably other calibers out there that do "better" but for me coming home with what I went after every time keeps me happy.
