.277-7mm or .277-300 think i have my round
basicaly the serria hpgk is my favorite bullet
in 264, 7mm, or .308 it does not come in the grain weight I want however in .277 it does
yes, yes I know 270 but hey I want to be different so I was thinking of necking down the 7mm rem mag or necking down the 300win mag or necking up the 264win all of these would give me the results I want
I think presures would be less with the 7mm or the 264 but still acceptable with 300 this barrel will be for my encore.
just wondering what others think

yea that round would be exactly what i want except for 1 big problem
no one will build the barrel for an encore I have checked with all the custom builders that make barrel for the encore none will do any short mag I gues the presures are higher with short mags which causes problems with the recivers same with weatherby cartriges even the one who will do weatherbys states that accuracy is a problem unless you reduce the loads a bit.

Why build such a high-pressure 270 round and then stick it in an action that really is not ideal for it? If you want a 270 Barrel-Burner, build it on a stout bolt-action that won't need a new hinge-pin every 1,000 rounds.
Also, consider the commercially available 270 Weatherby before spending thousands of dollars to reinvent THAT wheel. It is belted and has a case capacity that is virtually identical to what you're proposing. A good friend of mine in Wisconsin has used it for 400+ yard shots on big whitetails. Your idea would be the exact same thing, minus the radius at neck and shoulder.

well I would do it for a few reasons One I would never put 1000 rounds through it I am not a big time shopoter , two I have an encore and the reason I bought it is to buy barrels instead of rifles, three the encore would never hold up to the presure of the weatherby would twist every shot the presure would be way less and also acceptable on the round I am proposing to do.
Four I want somthing different not somthing that everyone has.
also it won't be any place close to 1000.00 heck that I would not even concider
My favorite fifle is and always will be my 250 sav but my 14year old daughter wants to hunt so it is a perfect rifle for her

Ask anybody on here...I like being different as much as any one!
However, if you really think you're going to put a custom barrel on your Encore, with the dies, chamber reamer, and gunsmithing work needed for the round you're proposing to do, for appreciably less than $1,000, all I can say is: You've obviously not played around with wildcats too much!
S'anywho...here's this 270 Weatherby, with a Burris Signature Series scope for right around $1,000. Oooh, and it's ported to help with recoil!

well yes I am new to wild cats but match grade machine does barrels for encore at 350.00
if they have the reamer it should not be a problem. Heck I may be real wrong but you should be able to run a 264 reamer in a 270 and convert it
as far as dies yes a custom die will cost a bit but I fig new brass same gun just neck size with my 270 neck die but hey thats what I am tring to learn

Glad to hear your barrel is coming and that you can use the 270-338 dies until the ones cut for your chamber get here. If you want any help using QL to model some of your loads, just let me know. This wild-catting stuff is fun, but you can never have too much information to go off.

That's insane! Hornady can spin them out for you in 16 weeks or less. I was told sixteen weeks in later May. I got them in 14, the week of September 12-16th. If you can, cancel that order and consult Hornady. Ten months is just plain nuts...
