Actually, it does not step down as easily as I thought it would. The round I favor, but is even more obscure, is the 338MX necked up .020" and then trimmed just a wee bit. Much easier to form but the brass is a real oddball.
Others are doing the 356/358 trimmed to 1.800", without moving the shoulder back. Leaves a tiny little .150" neck, but they are making it work. Lots of different ways to go, I guess.
This is a really fuzzy picture, but it's a 44 magnum, 358GNR, 358MX and 30-'06 case, to provide a little perspective. The 358MX is very close to being a rimmed version of the 35 IHMSA, in terms of capacity, neck length and operating pressure.
