6.5/06 AI Load Data

My father is just completing a custom Mauser with a Shilen match Barrel in 6.5/06 AI. What little I do know about the cartridge seems pretty impressive. Is there any good information on the cartridge out there. Also do any of you have any good loads you would reccomend?

i think it would be very close to the 6.5 rem mag. in case capacity. loads would have to be very similar! Dave

Had a Brazilian Mauser made up with a Shilen Stainless in 6.5-06. It is a fine deer/antelope rifle and very accurate with 120 gr Sierra Pro-Hunter bullets (these are the flat base soft points). The best loads are not the fastest. Using VV N550 powder and WLR primers in W-W cases, this gives a chrony'd velocity of 3250 fps and MOA accuracy.

I didn't go for the AI chambering as I read several places (including P.O. Ackley's book) that this is one cartridge that didn't seem to benefit from being improved. That there was actually a velocity loss.

Tell your dad the best brass I've found is 25-06 for case forming. Its easier to neck up than neck down, and you're going from .257 to .264 diameter which isn't a great deal of change.

Hi M1Tanker
I have a 6.5/06 on a HOWA action and I settled on 53 grains of AR2209 behind the Nosler 120 grain Ballistic Tip, shot this load at the range and easily shot MOA with at 100 yards.
Using Ferderal LR primers.
Please note, I live in Australia and use ADI powder for just about everything I shoot.
Barrel length is 26 inch with 1:8 twist, barrel maker is Tobler.
Regards, DALE9251

I have about 15 different loads for the 6.5-06 A-I...

What bullet weights are you going to be shooting and what is the twist rate on your fathers rifle???

I'm working up loads right now, first trying out Re-25 and IMR-7828. I'm using 140 and higher bullets, with a 1:8" barrel.
