Am looking at getting a winchester in either 30-30 or a 44mag. Wh people think of either of these and what would you advise on getting for a carry gun while pig hunting or hunting bigger animals.

This exact same question came up a month or so ago.I,of course opined that the 30/30 is equal to the 44 at close ranges and better at longer ranges.
However, the majority seemed to prefer the 44.

I have much respect for both cartridges from a lever rifle. I think one would need to handload to get the 44 to work "as well " in a carbine or rifle though. The 30-30 is just to refined to those firearms at this time. I will make the same comment about the 30-30 in pistol length barrels(TC Contender). It just did not work all that well IMO.
In a short-barrel of legal length, might be a push with well taylored handloads? I would have to try a 44 on targets at 150 yards or so for comparison? Alot of stuff comes into play there. Time of flight,B.C, S.D.,etc.
Track record of the lever-rifle chambered 30-30 Winchester is tough to argue with. Track record of the 44 mag in a good revolver is difficult as well.
My opinion is in there. Can you see it?
