Assembly Instructions

Hi,

I have a pre-64 model 1894.

I am looking for assembly guidance for the gun. Does anyone know of some good instructions with pictures. Or possibly a good diagram of the gun? Also if you could help me out with any general terms used for this gun. I've seen references that refer to the type of safety or ejection location.

Wow, Thanks Numrich. The site says the instructions are for a 1976 year model. Will I see many differences?
Thanks again, Kim

There might be a few differences in the lower tang, but very close throughout the years.

Here is another pic, more like the recent versions though. The big difference will probably be in the mainspring.

Flood

The gun came out of a flood.

Some parts are surprisingly good but others are terrible. I'm having to do a major restoration; in some cases having to use a file to get rid of pits and keep faces flat.

There was mold in the stock and I've had to chase it pretty deep to fully remove it. I may get a new stock but will first try to save the original.

Since I'm having to go so far, I decided to take it to a "better than original" condition. I was surprised to see how good it was on the inside. I guess the water was limited to the outside or it was oiled pretty good on the inside and not the outside. Since it is turning out so good, I'm considering case hardening the receiver. what do you think about that?

[any general terms used for this gun. I've seen references that refer to the type of safety or ejection location. ]

Since your 94 is a pre-64, the only "safety" would be in the lower tang - a small piece raised when the lever is squeezed closed harder. It's spring-loaded to block the trigger when unpressed.

The ejection/ejector is referred to as top-ejection because the ejector is located in the top forward center of the bolt, and throws cartridges straight up - as opposed to post-83 94AE models (Angle Eject) - which have the ejector more towards the side of the bolt top, & a lower right receiver wall to clear ejecting cases, which are thrown out at an angle to the right.

The other main differences of a pre-64 from a post-64, besides receiver material & shape plus lower link construction, are R/L cartridge guide length(s), carrier/lifter construction & design, solid action pins ILO roll hollow pins, and machined trigger/hammer parts ILO cast/sintered metal one

IOW, if you need to buy parts, buy ONLY pre-64 parts from the likes of Winchester Bob's, Bob's Gun Shop, or Wisner's Inc.
