old 94 conversion to 64/legacy style??

At the risk of sounding foolish (something I often do), can one convert an old model 94 to model64/legacy style (pistol grip) with just minor modifications or is it more complicated than it first seems?
I've always wanted a model 64 style 30-30 and could change out some parts on one of my 94's to get there....if it's possible. Can I just get a new lower legacy tang, legacy finger lever, legacy but stock, short magazine tube/spring etc. and get it to fit in a pre 64 94? Even if the old model 64 parts would have fit to an old 94, would the new legacy parts fit to an old 94? Have I over simplified something that is really easier said than done?
As always, all thoughts are welcome. Thanks
cj

My straight grip 94 was made in '01 and during the war (WWII) was rebarreled with a mod 64 tapered barrel short tube and maybe forearm. Don't know how to do pics, sorry.

1sailor,
Did it also get a new finger lever and pistol grip stock? Ultimately I want the pistol grip and the shorter tube look.
the more i think about it the more i wonder whether i should convert my 307 or 356 to the pistol grip/ short tube look, much like a model 71, instead of one of my 30-30's. originally, i was thinking of doing it to a 30-30 to lighten it a little more for my son to start shooting reduced loads in....plus it's a look i don't have in the gun cabinet yet.
thanks
Cj

No it didn't. I read your post incorrectly and thought you had the pistol grip stock and just wanted to go with the mod 64 barrel etc. I will say though that the tapered 26" barrel and short mag tube along with the curved steel buttplate really make for a nice looking rifle. I dropped it off with a smith a couple days ago to correct a problem with my carrier and he couldn't stop going on about how much he liked the look. Personaly I don't think I would alter a pre '64 Winchester just to change the looks but if I had one that needed parts replaced then why not. Take a look at this. If the bidding doesn't go way up this might be a good way to go 1950 Winchester Model 64 30-30 lever NO RESERVE : Lever Action Rifles at GunBroker.com

The post 64 parts will not fit a pre 64 receiver. Part of the same vintage will interchange. For example; angle eject models only will interchange.....post 64 to angle eject is dependent on models,.....early 1950's to pre64 will interchange,......and around 1950 and earlier will work. After WW2 to 1950 the upper tang and butt stock was modified along with other very tiny changes so part are different.

Thanks....
so what do you think about a legacy finger lever and stock fitting onto a 307 big bore receiver?
I can't see from the parts list that the hammer spring assembly for a straight grip is different from that of a legacy...does anyone know if they require different parts?
I have to figure out how to shorten the tube and secure it too without actually modifying anything about my original 307. I don't mind modifying the new parts if i need to, but want to keep the old parts safe.

A good smith with a small forge can make yoour lever into a pistol grip style. then just get boyd or someone else to make a 94 (your model) pistol grip stock. the mag tube can easily be shortened.

The Legacy parts will bolt right on. Should be an easy swap.
