I suspect that the OP & I are in the same boat - neither one of us will be the liquidator, so everything's roses.

I have a Winchester model 94 NRA centennial with gold inlay and coin, new in box with papers and even the wax paper. Made in 1971. I broke the seal because it was my Fathers day/birthday present...must check out gift!!!. Anyway, I am of the notion of shooting it, but everyone says "NO!!!". I don't like owning a perfectly good Winchester (American made beauty) and not shoot it...that is what it was made to do. It's worth $800.00 and I would love to trade or get some money for it because it is way to tempting to not shoot it and since everyone is so attament about not shooting it...fine, then I should get rid of it to someone who collects and get something I can shoot.

Well.................. just my $0.02, but it's a post-64, only made fancier than most, and will certainly never be worth the $$$ that a gennie with the same features & in the same condition would bring.

They're ready-made "collectibles", like "Beany Babies", "Cabbage Patch Dolls" & "collector" dishes - made expressly for those who'd like to have the real thing, but can't (for whatever reason), or who'd just like something to collect.

I've shot/hunted my late model, high-grade, Model 94's & Model 86's w/o a thought; and, since I took care not to actually beat the brush with them, got top dollar when it came time to move them on, because they were still pristine.

I'd say, if you enjoy the gun, shoot it - after all, how else can anyone enjoy a new classic rifle, with all those upgraded features, at less then 1/3 the cost of the real deal ?

I'm with old crow. Not in it for the investment. I was scolded for cleaning up my 32 special but people fix up their old cars don't they? They wouldn't drive a rusty car and I can't handle a rusty gun. Go for it Old Crow, I'm with you!

I started this post almost a year ago and shooting my NEW winchester1894 musket/1962 44mag.carbine and 1960 RUGER SUPERBLACKHAWK was the correct decision!!!!!!! i have had a great time shooting these NEW old guns. A lot more fun than having 3 nib. safe queens that someone else would get to shoot after i had headed off to meet SKEETER,MR.ELMER KEITH and the likes. What would those gentlemen think of a man who owned fine firearms who did not shoot them????

Three years ago I bought 2nib Brownings, an 1886 and a mod 71. Cut the factory ties off them and started shooting. Never looked back. One seller almost cried right there.

Never looked back.
