Question re-bluing

Hey everyone,
I recently bought a model 94 with the serial number 5377789. As far as i can discover, it was made after 1982. Can the receiver be re-blued?

Thanks

Yes but you will have to send it to someone reputable who knows how to handle unusual materials and/ or specializes in post 64 Winchesters. It won't be cheap to do it right.

Good luck

Things may have changed in recent years, but post-64 Winchester started using something called "graphitic" steel for the receiver. It doesn't blue worth a hoot. They would electroplate a thin layer of iron on the surface, then blue that. When the blueing wears or rusts off the iron is gone with it. It is claimed that certain blueing chemicals used in a particular way will blue the receivers, I have no personal experience. Talk with the people at Brownells. In my small shop I can only utilize the modern coatings such as Duracoat or Cerakote. GW
