Emailing the administrator

Registered Users do not see the above ad.

To whom it may concern:

I am now monitoring the admin email account for the forum. This is separate from my personal email that my account is tied to. You can generally expect a reply in one or two business days, often less. This post is referring to the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of every page. When you use that link, the forum does not identify who you are (unlike when you click on a member name and have the ability to email or PM a person). Folks who can't log in obviously must use the "Contact Us" link.

Please keep the following in mind -

The purpose of emailing the administrator via the "contact us" link is for, well, administrative functions. Not to find out how much your gun is worth, particular load data, or to assist your search for odd/obsolete items. In particular, the emails that will be answered will generally fall under the following categories:

1. You lost your password and can't log in.
2. You cannot post even though you think you may be registered on the forum, or
3. You are experiencing problems posting, even though the forum lets you log in.

The rest mostly gets deleted.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE include your forum user name in your emails. I am not able, at this time, to read your thoughts over the internet and may or may not be able to figure out who you are via the email address.

So as to expedite the questions that will get asked anyway, despite this posting, let me offer the following information free of charge:

1. I am not a gun dealer, appraiser, or auctioneer and don't have the slightest idea what your gun is worth. Sorry!

2. Load data is available from Accurate, Barnes, Hodgdon, Hornady, Lyman, Nosler, Ramshot, Remingson, Speer, Sierra, Winchester, and I don't know who all else. Those folks have ballistics labs and know what they are doing. I have books from almost all of them and can endorse that each and every one as a valuable and reliable source of load data. If you don't believe what is published in them or have a wildcat and/or non-standard cartridge, try Quickload. For those with the .500 JRH, I will help you out as I can - but send through my personal email (ie. click on my member name and so on). However I would prefer any questions to be posted in the forum, so that the answers may help all. Same goes about making custom stocks and other personal hobbies that have nothing to do with being a forum admin.

3. Try, in this order - the manufacturer, www.e-gunparts.com (Numrich), Brownell's, Midway, and any local gunsmith with boxes of parts, if you are trying to fix something, order reloading components, etc.

4. Please do not send vague emails with no useful information. "What's up the forum doesn't work" may be an accurate statement, but it is not going to be helpful in getting your issue resolved. Include any error messages if this is not a registration issue, word for word, if you would like to resolve the problem quickly. Because the very first thing I am going to ask you is, "What is the exact text of the error?" if you have not included that. Feel free to send a screenshot if you don't want to type out everything word for word. The programmers actually appreciate screenshots because there is no ambiguity, and there may be other clues on the screen that let us know what is going on.

Thank you. I am glad to help with any administrative issues. Don't forget to include your forum user name.

If you read the stickys posted on this forum you will find you need a minimum of 25 posts AND 10 days as a member to be enabled to post pictures. Since you joined today, you have 13 more posts and 9 days to go.

Add'tl: See by one of your previous posts in the BP forum that you've already discovered the minimums. We'll leave this for future members with the same question.

hosting-roasting

I have no idea on how to use a hosting servive, however I can write lots of superfluous stuff to get me turned on to direct pictures sooner. Since I am a nice guy and would not want to read hollow mail myself, I will refrain from such childish antics.
I do have a fine picture, given to me by the late Tom Osley of River Valley Ordnance about 15-20 years ago, that shows a few of the FIRST ORIGINAL 50 caliber Whisper rounds loaded by Tom for SSKindustries.com for use in their rifles. This round uses the M8 spotter tracer bullet, in a shortened case, loaded just sub sonic. This round is more fun to shoot than any belt fed gun!
How about an early turn on of direct pictures for me??

Hello Mike .. I'm new here and not a shooter .. as I'm 70 I don't suppose that will change. I joined the forum as I have a very old flintlock blunderbuss style pistol that my grandfather dug up and which I want to identify, hence my post in the black powder forum. I've had a couple of replies, indicating they need to see pictures, but, having checked the rules re uploading, I'm not likely to reach 25 posts and don't want to clog things up with rubbish. Can you help/ suggest a solution please.

Yes, you can use a third party host like Photobucket. I'm sure there are others that will let you sign up for free and upload your pictures.

Good luck.

As a general Hint, set up your photos in a separate file labeled for your Antique Firearm so when you use the chosen service for other Purposes it wont 'move' the File and 'break the Link' sometime in the future.

I didn't do that originally, and of course had to go back through all my Posts to reset the 'Links' for the photos' new Location(s).

Best Regards,
Chev. Wilkliam

Mike a rather odd thing has occurred with my latest post to the Handloading Procedures forum and the the ' Neck Tension ' thread. My user name shows as the most recent responder but I can't find my post ? Is it lost on your end or mine ? Or what ?

Regards and thanks

Mike I really even hate to burden you since I can work around the problem by shutting down and coming back but everytime I click on a thumbnail image it opens then when I close, that particular message goes dark ? I can't get back to the poster to respond or do anything. Whatever is going on is distinctly linked to the thumbnail image ??

Thanks

Yeah the hosting changed, and one of the features that no longer works as well is opening up photos. But, I don't have any reports exactly as you describe. What device, exactly, are you viewing the forum with? What browser (if you are on a regular computer)?

Mine does that too. It's frustrating but what I've found is I click the back button which, depending on where you are, takes you out of the thread and you just have to go back in. Now some photos are attached Ina way that they open in a new browser window. So just close that window for those pics

Need to change user name

Hi & I apologize for my spur of the moment user name I had just got off the phone & it was a heated conversation about buying new springs for the PK .380, it's not in my nature to lose my cool due to the jobs I've done in the military & personal security at present.

I used the name WeakPK380spring and would like to change my user name to something that suits my personality better & doesn't discredit the help/advice I can give to folks looking for various gear, information, training.

I would like my user name changed to conservativearmyguy which is what I use on other forums so I've either missed the area where I can change my name or a moderator is going to have to step in.

I signed up to be an automatic site supporter so I don't plan on going anywhere & would like to contribute. If a moderator needs to see all of my credentials maxing everything in basic, AIT, DPD training bullseye competition stamped U.S. Infantry with leg points 25/50 yard scores I'll gladly send these documents over to you.

I did ask that you email me first to ensure that you don't get locked out of your account when it is changed, but I'll go ahead and take a chance.

I have TRIED LOOKING EVERYWHERE I thought it might be, but I can't find anything that tells me how to become a site supporter. I am not a free loader and will pay my way if I knew how to do it. Probably others would also. Why is it kept a secret? Why isn't how to become a site supporter out there on a sticky in BOLD CAPITAL LETTERS?

Never mind. I found it cleverly hidden in the Upgrade to VIP box. DUH!!!

Look at the upper right hand corner of any of your posts; running total kept there. As of this post, you have a total of 62 posts, plenty!

Problem in Paradise

I have concerns about being stalked on this forum. An individual has again popped in another thread. Less wordy but strange comments nevertheless. It may be he's trying to pick fights or is somehow impaired. Could you refer me to a moderator who help address this problem. Deciding his being drunk and/or crazy may be the problem. Thanks for your help
