I just bought myself a NIB Winchester model 94 vintage 2005 in 38-55 and want to start hand loading cast bullets for it. I started looking at dies and saw the RCBS Cowboy 3 Die set. Anyone have experience with these? Are these going to do a better job that a 'standard' die set for 38-55? Any comments good or bad would be much appreciated.

I have them in .357 and .30-30
They expander is better/larger for cast bullets.
If you are going to shoot cast, then I think they are a good choice.
They look good and are quality.
But, any set of dies with a larger expander would work as well.
I like the NOE expanders in the Lee die body but M dies will work also for proper expansion.

I use "standard" RCBS dies for .38 Special/.357 magnum, .44 Special, and, .45 Colt. I use the Hornady New Dimension dies for the .44 WCF. No problems at all reloading for cowboy calibers with cast lead bullets. I have nothing bad to say about the RCBS Cowboy dies, I just bought my dies before they came on the market.

I cast bullets for & reload the 38-55 using the RCBS Cowboy dies. They work great. There are two expander plugs. One is .375, the other .379. The expander you use depends on the diameter of your bore. This is important for loading the 38-55.
