MusgraveMan,

Excellent post! I read the link and saw where the sheriff opposes citizen CCW rights. As an agent, I met many lawmen who thought they were ok with guns, but not the citizens. I hope the sheriff has a successful recovery from his self-inflicted wound. I suggest he read the Safety Instructions that came with his Glock and stop opposing Constitutional Rights of the citizens. Ho..Ho..Ho.

None of us is perfect and we can ALL make mistakes, but the actions of this man was not a mistake it was careless and it was just lucky no innocent person was in line of that bullet after it exited his hand.
SO BASIC !!! MUZZLE AWARENESS!!!!
I am always wary when I get invited to a shoot with people I do not know or we have a guest I have not shot with. So often I have seen two big black holes of shotgun muzzles being waved about. The worst offence is laying the gun across the arms/chest, so when the person turns the muzzles swing around in all directions. How often do you see this on youtube bird shoots ?
My normal remark, "Is that gun loaded ??" ...if they answer yes, then my retort is,
" Well I am not in season at the moment, point it at something else will you. "

Overlooking a good mindset, especially around firearms. Mistakes happen when you're not paying close attention to what you're doing when around firearms. Then there's this:

Quite.

Even if my piece on the shooting bench may be unloaded (hope they do not mind) I always carry in a holster one gun that is ALWAYS loaded. So I comply.

Don't like the idea of an anti-gun LEO. Sounds like a messiah complex to me.

there was a time when all Leo's were sportsmen and hunters and gun lovers. Now with a huge percentage of the officers in my city, seldom even go for their range training, pathetic if you ask me. FS

I honestly couldn't wrap my head around the idea of magazine disconnectors till now.....
Can you imagine the number of ADs if LEOs went back to Colt Single Action Army's?

All leo's????

I doubt there ever was a time when ALL LEOS were ALL anything, other than LEOS. It just takes a split second of stupid, & it could happen to anyone. For it to happen to someone opposing gun rights, KARMA?

I once had a deputy on my squad who left to become a DEA Agent. Several years went by and I see him on the news! He'd become a Firearms Safety Instructor, and had just accidently SHOT himself when re-holstering his weapon! It was bad enough that he was wounded, but IN FRONT OF A CLASS!?........He should have had a V-8 moment, or something!..............Some of you probably saw the video clip of this AD! He did recover.

Yanno, back when cops were all carrying revolvers, I don't
recall many stories of cops shooting themselves, or their partners,
in the hands, legs, ***, chest, etc. Until glock "perfection" came along.

Now, federal agents are shooting themselves in the foot during training
classes, cops are drilling their partners in the chest, themselves in the leg,
and it's ALWAYS A GLOCK.

I don't get it. Where's the perfection in that?

There were no such reports with DA revolvers. Cop accidents started with autos and has accelerated just about every year since.

Nearly 80% of Glock injuries happen to cops with 5 years or more of 'training' or more.

Glocks DO have several safeties but it takes less energy to remove the safeties and fire the gun than other firearms. That's why so many kids shoot them.
