Does anyone on the forum have some plans for an adjustable benchrest ? I work in a machine shop and have access and ability to make anything from nothing.

This topic has come up before, so you might try using the forum search function to see what you find. I know there are several you can get to by using Google, but I haven't built one so I can't recommend one over another.

Just about everything has been discussed at one time or another on the internet. If it's been awile than time to discuss it again. Maybe someone has something new to add to what's already out there.

Yeah, I did a search here but the search function is pretty lame. I googled too and it just shows benches not the benchrest tand itself. Tried ro wring googles scrawny little neck to give me stands but was not successful.
I drew one up and it will be done hopefully Friday.

Since you have some skills, look at the BR Pivot shooting table. I built 4 tables and they were too heavy. The BRP can be broken down into 4 parts and can be carried to any location you choose. They are very stable and will adjust to uneven ground, and have adjustable seat positions. You could probably fabricate one yourself. Using aluminum will make it lighter, I used steel making mine and now have the BRP. Al

Guys, I think he is wanting a REST not a bench. An adjustable one at that. My advice would be, look at the ones the Prairie Dog guys use and build one like that.............

Portable shooting bench

The BR Pivot is a varmit shooting table, it's very stable and they now make it out of cast aluminum. Mine has a steel base and is a little heavier than the aluninum ones, it breaks down into 4 parts which makes it eisier to transport. I hauled mine all over the Tx, pandle and western Ok. this past May dogs are hard to find with the drouth. But I think this guy could make his own using aluminun since he works in a machine shop, they generally have scrap metal left over from some jobs. Just butter up to the shop foreman.

The search function doesn't penalize you for extra words. Just put in enough. I searched on "shooting rifle adjustable rest plans build your own", and got a link to a design by our late and much missed moderating colleague, Bob Faucett. No dimensions, but a look at the photos is all you need:

http://www.shootersforum.com/tips-comments/21782-home-made-low-recoil-rifle-rest.html

Off the board, I put the same search string into Google and got linked to a YouTube DIY video, and a whole bunch more came up with it with links on the right side of the page, so this must be a common sort of project at the basic level. The YouTube link is here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jgVw1qHaz4

Scroll down far enough and you'll find Varmint Al has a really inexpensive wood design here:

http://varmintal.net/abifu.htm

e-How has several descriptions of home made benches and at least one rest alone, here:

http://www.ehow.co.uk/how_7772695_make-rifle-rest-longrange-shooting.html

Here's another one from another forum:

Searching is usually just a matter of being determined and narrowing the search progressively until the flotsam and jetsam is gone.

Well , I made my stand this week. Just have the three round pieces to weld on to the end of the legs that are threaded for the leveling screws. I used aluminum for the sand bag tray and the rest of it isstainless.
I would post a picture but can't figure out how.

You have to have 10 days membership and over 25 posts before you can post pictures through the board. Then your registration description changes from Registered User to Beartooth Regular. With the change some additional controls become available. Then the method in this sticky works.

I see you have 25 posts and much more than 10 days membership under your belt now. Your next post should trigger the change (make one post, log out, log back in). If it does not, PM me and I will get an administrator to fix it.

It's supposed to. I see it hasn't on yours. I either remembered wrong about when that shifts, or it's changed with the software. You can see it on Purple Dragon's name, above. I'd thought it was simultaneous with the expiration, but it looks like I remembered incorrectly. I'm going to check with MikeG about the timing. He can get into the software to look it up.

In any event, the way to tell if the conversion occurred is to click on the "Go Advanced" tab under the reply composition window, then scroll down to see the the Manage Attachments button appears. If not, Mike needs to get you a manual override. If it has, then all's well and the status change doesn't fall when I thought it should.

Well, you've got my brain twisted now. :) Are you having trouble posting, or are you just referring to Rcs9250's issue. Since he now has 25 posts he should be able to post pictures through the forum.

As I said, your status should have changed automatically. The system just hiccups sometimes.

Mike,

He's got the same problem Mainspring did. He's on 27 posts and is still a Registered User only.

OK , my account is squared away. I think I was on triple secret new member probation. :D
Here's a picture of what I ended up with. It's all stainless so it won't rust. The screws in the legs are going to be stainless thumb screws and lock nuts but don't have the stock or the time at the moment.
It has plenty of adjustment so even AR type rifles will clear with a 20 round magazine.

The last picture is the Sinclair International rest I attempted to copy.
