Lewis it really sounds like the quality of the steel is quite poor. You have any way to do a Rockwell hardness test on the barrel or receiver?

Your right, after removing the barrel and getting a close look it is not repairable. So, change out barrel time !

have seen many t53s with no rifling left at all. corrosion and questionable steel have plagued Chinese manufacture in past decades to point where uncle mao was collecting pots and pans and encouraging village steel foundries

in sorting many containers of Chinese imports in 80,-90s the evidence of blacksmith repairs was clear. your rifle may have been repaired several times already then scrapped

icu costs up to $5,000/day . rifle is worth $50 in parts at best

I brought a Chinese Mosin carbine back from Vietnam. It was in rough shape but the barrel was not pinned. It would seem to me that if it is screwed to the action then you should be able to cut off a threat, re-ream the chamber and be in business...
