I have been looking at some Smith & Wesson revolvers that are model 686 and 357 Magnum. The question came up as to what the frame type is. Besides the term "Medium" is the frame a "J", "K", "L" or "N". I am thinking about some different grips and need to know.

I'm pretty sure that Ks & Ls take the same grips. And, although called a medium frame, so is a K, but the L is larger, enough that they can build a 7 shot gun on the frame.
